Goals and Systems
Revisiting the goals from a week ago
I set the goal to write once per day (online and offline) for a week (writing prompt here). How did it go? I wasn’t able to write for all the 7 days. I think I wrote for 4.
Was it a failure?
It was not! I was out and about enjoying the sun during the weekend, and spent more of my time working and being very productive during the week. It was actually incredible. I created memories to remember. I played pickle ball, and spent time soaking up the sun and talking to friends and family.
Does that mean that I won’t try for my 7 day streak again? Absolutely not! I do want to write and have a writing streak, but at the same time, I do want to write about something that I believe in, that I can connect with and create some value. So meaningful writing is way more valuable to me than just writing to maintain a streak. I actually want to train my mind to have more meaningful thoughts, and remember more meaningful things from my experiences. That is what I want!
Writing everyday is just a way to create a system to achieve that goal.
In tech, we have something called a “retrospective” where we look at our past performances and observe how well we did, and what we would like to do in the future.
How was your experience with systems and goals? Were you able to achieve your goals? Were you able to build a system?
I’d love to hear your thoughts!
